In this next blog, I’d like to talk about something that affects us all.
Stress…
Stress, although good in the short term, is very detrimental to our health in the long run if it becomes chronic.
I do a monthly health talk in my clinic - which if it happens that you are in Clarkson, Mississauage I would love for you to join the talk - In our last health talk I spoke about the deadly effects of stress and during my research for my talk I learned just how many diseases can be caused or worsened because of stress, everything from heart disease to cancer to multiple sclerosis to type-2 diabetes. Stress affects our entire body. It is a physiological response. See as a short term survival mechanism, our body’s response to stress gives us the best chance of survival. But in the long term, constant stress never allows your body to truly rest and as a result leads to some very detrimental health diseases. So what can we do about it?
The fortunate side of things is that we can do something about this. Is it going to be easy? Most likely not because these changes that need to be made are lifestyle changes – meaning permanent changes not just a change for a brief period of your life. Things like exercising regularly changing your dietary habits, starting chiropractic care – these are all things that must be integrated into your health regime in order to make a difference in your life for the better. There is one more thing that also needs to take into account if you want to make the biggest difference and that’s your beliefs or your mindset.
The truth is, person A and person B can go through the exact same ‘stressful’ encounters, but why does one come out peacefully and the other end up even more stress and worse than before. My personal opinion is that of their beliefs. There’s of course so much more I could go into, but I’m not a specialist in this area, so I’ll keep my hands off this part. But there are many in your community who I’m sure could help you find your way if you are struggling and chronically stressed. All I can say is seek help whether it’s from your family, mentor, pastor, councilor, psychologist, etc. the list is endless. In the end I believe your state of mind both directly and indirectly affects your physical body. And in return the state of your body will also affect your mind. One always affects the other and can either move towards breaking down or towards building up. The beauty of this is that you get to choose and every day or every moment is a choice to choose how an event or situation affects you. You can choose to always be right or be kind or choose to be in fear or choose to work from love. I know this is very general, but in essence this is what it all comes down to.
