One of the things that always gets to me is the fact that so many people believe chiropractic is solely for pain relief. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, but chiropractic is for so much more than just pain relief. I’ve explained in the past how it helps with many health issues so I won’t go into those. However, what I do want to share today is an amazing new study on how chiropractic adjustments positively affects brain function!
In a new study completed by Heidi Haavik, Kelly Holt, Bernadette Murphy and others have recently confirmed that “there is solid evidence that chiropractic adjustments changes brain function”. According to the study it’s the prefrontal cortex that is greatly affected when the spine gets adjusted where they saw, on average, a change in brain function of 20%!(1) The prefrontal cortex is located at the front of your brain highlighted in orange in the image below.

This part of the brain is responsible for all of the following things: behavior, goal directed tasks, decision making, memory (i.e. short term), attention, intelligence, processing of pain and emotional response to it, autonomic function, motor control, eye movements and spatial awareness. In addition it is also responsible for sensorimotor function relevant to falls-prevention; better joint-position sense in both the upper limb and the lower limb; improved muscle strength in lower limb muscles; better pelvic floor control; and better ability to carry out mental rotation of objects. WOW! That’s a lot of things the prefrontal brain controls. It’s no wonder why I have patients who share with me their improvements in balance, memory, learning etc. Truthfully, if you are open to it, receiving regular chiropractic adjustments is a life-saving lifestyle.
There is now solid proof that chiropractic changes and saves lives if used as a proactive measure to health. I don’t know about you, but between getting pain relief versus having a better functioning brain, I’d choose the better function brain. Wouldn’t you? So what are you waiting for, go get your spine checked, get adjusted by well-trained chiropractor, and you’ll be thanking yourself in the long run because you’ve been successful in maintaining your health through the years.
